About Each Position

What We Do

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer Tutor for Adults

Time Commitment: 5:15-7:30pm

Tutor an adult ESL student one-on-one, leading them through our provided curriculum and teaching material once a week (Monday or Thursday).

Expectations

Direct sequential lessons based on provided curriculum materials
Maintain tutoring logs for your student to track progress and growth
Engage with other tutors & tutees during group activities (second half of the session)

Volunteer Tutor for Adults (Summer)

Time Commitment: Once a Week, for at least 4 weeks

Tutor an adult ESL student one-on-one, leading them through our provided curriculum and teaching material once a week, for a minimum of four weeks.

Expectations

Arrange your own schedule for meeting your tutee (plan the days, times & locations with your tutee)
Maintain basic record-keeping to ensure continuity of the program
Periodically touch base with the program director to update them on progress and address any questions you may have

Volunteer Tutor for Children

Time Commitment: 5:15-7:30pm

Lead children through play/learning time, working on English, reading, math, creative activities, and school homework once a week (Monday or Thursday).

Expectations

Enjoy, and have experience in, working with young children
Maintain basic record-keeping to ensure continuity of the program
Collaborate closely with the head tutor to structure instruction

Part-Time Paid Opportunities

Head Tutor for Adults

$11/hr, 1099 Contracted by College Wesleyan Church
Time Commitment: 50-60 hours over a 12 week period (approximately 4 hrs/week)

Mentor, provide guidance to, and coordinate the work of volunteer tutors as the leader of weekly tutoring sessions (Monday, Thursday, or both).

Expectations

Mentor and guide tutors
Collaborate with program staff
Facilitate registration of new ESL students
Maintain attendance and other records
Manage and organize activities, resources and supplies for each section of the sessions (individual work, break, and group activity)
Arrange substitutes when absences occur

Head Tutor for Children

$11/hr, 1099 Contracted by College Wesleyan Church
Time Commitment: 50-60 hours of work over a 12-week period (approximately 4 hrs/week)

Mentor, provide guidance to, and coordinate the work of the volunteer tutors as they lead children through play/learning time.

Expectations

Utilize program resources to prepare basic learning goals for the children
Coordinate with parents to learn about each child’s needs
Maintain attendance and other records
Assign each child a tutor based on their individual needs
Organize and prepare activities, supplies and resources for learning, play, and breaks
Assign substitutes when absences occur

Student Program Assistant

$11/hr, 1099 Contracted by College Wesleyan Church
Time Commitment: 40–60 hours of work over a 16-week semester (approximately 3 hrs/week)

Provide administrative, organizational, and creative support to the English Connection program while helping coordinate communications, resources, marketing, and program operations.

Expectations

Manage and organize program documents, records, and digital files
Assist staff with administrative and clerical tasks
Create graphics and visual content for the website, orientations, and publicity materials
Maintain and update the program website
Assist with annual reports, fundraising efforts, and community events
Communicate with volunteers, students, and other program participants
Help manage social media content and program communications
